Hey there! I'm Jennifer, the heart and soul behind Sweet Elevation Bakery, and I'm thrilled to virtually introduce myself! I'm not just the owner, but also the Executive Pastry Chef, and I'm on a mission to bring a new level of sweetness to the Capital District.

So, how did this sweet journey begin? Well, it all started in an unexpected place – the Ames department store in Palatine Bridge. If you're over 40, you might remember those green cursive letters, a beloved department store of our generation, kind of like a simpler version of Target. I stumbled upon a starter cake decorating kit and a how-to magazine, and decided to give cake decorating a whirl. My mom's birthday and Christmas were just around the corner, and I thought, "Why not?" Little did I know, this would be the start of something incredible.

In 1999, cell phones were a rarity, and we survived without Google, Pinterest, or Amazon. My journey began with a Wilton magazine, a VHS tape from a local cake supply shop, and a whole lot of patience and experimentation. No YouTube tutorials or TikTok videos—just pure passion.

About four years into my journey, I decided to fine-tune my skills and become "legit." I attended the Culinary Institute of America, which was a transformative experience.

Afterward, I ventured across the Northeast, training cake decorators for a well-known supermarket chain. I waited tables, made cakes on the side, and even worked at Home Depot (PVC pipe makes an excellent rolling pin, by the way). It was a journey of balancing multiple roles and finding my path.

I opened my very first storefront bakery, Cake Placid, in Lake Placid, New York. However, in 2012, tragedy struck when the bakery was destroyed in a fire. Despite the setback, I rebuilt and eventually sold the bakery after experiencing extreme burnout.

I packed up my kids and headed south to the Capital District, where I initially began my baking journey after leaving the Adirondacks. I worked in various local bakeries, and then, during the pandemic, I took a daring step: I opened Sweet Elevation Bakery in 2020. Who opens a bakery during a pandemic, right? But everyone was eating, and I saw an opportunity to bring joy through sweets.

Sweet Elevation Bakery began in an office building, and after three years, it was time to take the next step and move into a storefront. Now, with the power of the internet, email, social media, YouTube, Pinterest, and an incredible team, we're taking the world of baked goods to a whole new level.

Sweet Elevation Bakery isn't just my story; it's the culmination of the support of amazing customers over the years, the love and encouragement of my significant other and children, and the dedication of our new staff.
