A Sourdough Story

Welcome to Fire & Breadstone! I'm Molly, and for as long as I can remember I have been cooking & baking for my friends and family. I am passionate about creating food that is delicious, healthy, and appealing to all of the senses. My specialty is traditional sourdough bread created in small batches. I have dealt with food sensitivities for most of my life, which spurred my initial foray into sourdough back in 2014. I created a starter then, and it has accompanied me ever since. When I went through long stretches without a home base, I dehydrated a little starter and brought it with me (I'm a little crazy that way!). In 2022 my husband and I moved from Florida to Alaska. For the first time in my life I wasn't working a full-time job (previously I had been an insurance adjuster for catastrophes, traveling in leaps and bounds across the lower 48 to chase hurricanes and floods and disasters as they frequently cropped up). My life, which had been uprooted and chaotic before getting married, finally had some stability. It was wonderful to have some time off to regroup - but I cannot stand still for long to save my life, so after a few months I was looking for a new project to pour into. I was baking sourdough on a weekly basis for our own consumption, and decided to start advertising some extra loaves here and there - so Fire & Breadstone was born.
